Man Jumps Into the Ocean After Cops Find Felony Warrant

During the stop, they identified the operator and discovered he had an active felony warrant connected to an earlier wildlife investigation. The warrant stemmed from allegations that the man illegally gaffed, stabbed and killed a protected tarpon before throwing it back into the water. The alleged incident resulted in a felony warrant carrying a $30,000 bond. When officers informed him that he was being detained, the man repeatedly insisted he had done nothing wrong and questioned whether he really had to go to jail. Despite being warned several times that attempting to flee would only lead to additional charges, he suddenly jumped into the ocean and tried to swim away. Officers pursued him on the water before taking him into custody. As a result of the encounter, he was charged with one count of felony fleeing and eluding and two counts of resisting an officer without violence, in addition to the original felony warrant.
