Uber, Zipline launch drone delivery for Uber Eats
Uber Technologies and Zipline announced a strategic partnership to bring autonomous drone delivery to Uber Eats customers across the United States, with Uber also taking an investment in Zipline. The companies aim to reach one million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029, with initial deployments starting later this year in Zipline’s existing U.S. markets before expanding to additional cities. Zipline, active on four continents and already serving hospitals and major brands, will leverage its drone network to offer fast, on-demand deliveries and help reduce traffic and emissions. The rollout will begin in markets where Zipline currently operates, such as Dallas and Houston, and will scale as Zipline expands its service footprint nationwide. Uber describes the partnership as creating a more flexible, sustainable delivery network by combining Uber’s platform with Zipline’s ultra-fast drones, while Zipline highlights benefits like delivering items in minutes and supporting millions of customers and businesses. The collaboration mirrors Uber’s prior drone partnership with Flytrex and underscores a broader push toward scalable, autonomous logistics in the U.S.
