Kejelcha Regains World Half Marathon Record Buenos Aires
Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia regained the men’s world half marathon record by running 56:51 at the Media Maratón Ciudad de Buenos Aires, cutting 29 seconds off the previous mark. The time surpasses Jacob Kiplimo’s 57:20 world record in Lisbon, though official ratification is pending. Kejelcha had previously set 57:30 in Valencia in October 2024 after which Kiplimo’s faster 56:42 in Barcelona could not be ratified due to non-compliant race conditions. In the same Buenos Aires race, Fotyen Tesfay of Ethiopia won the women’s half marathon in 1:03:57. Kejelcha is also renowned for other feats, including a world-record performance in the 10,000m road race and a near two-hour marathon effort in London earlier this year. The event is a World Athletics Label road race, underscoring Kejelcha’s continuing prominence in distance running.
