Socceroos star Volpato allegedly tests positive for cocaine
Socceroos winger Cristian Volpato, 22, was stopped in Sydney after driving 109 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the Anzac Bridge, with police alleging he was also speeding about two hours earlier on the same route. A roadside drug test reportedly returned a positive result for cocaine, and a secondary oral-fluid sample has been taken for further analysis. His international driving licence has been suspended for six months, though he has not been charged with a criminal offence. Volpato, who rose to prominence after switching allegiance from Italy to the Socceroos at the World Cup, is preparing for pre-season with Sassuolo amid transfer speculation. Authorities and Football Australia have been contacted for comment as inquiries continue.
