Singhs Vietnamese permanently closed both of its San Antonio locations after a brief planned break from August 3-5, with co-founder Eric Treviño confirming the closures. The St. Mary’s Strip location opened in 2018, the UTSA Boulevard location debuted in January 2026, and Singhs Cantina had expanded in 2025 before its space was later repurposed, marking a notable end to the concept’s local run. The closures come after about a decade of offering Vietnamese-inspired comfort food with Texas and Mexican twists, and followers flooded social media with grief and gratitude for the staff and community. Treviño said the team was appreciative of loyal customers but did not immediately disclose a reason for the permanent shuttering. In a broader industry note, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina announced the Escondido location would close on August 30 after 20 years, as part of a wider pattern of closures following a Chapter 11 filing and nationwide changes, leaving Mira Mesa as the county’s sole remaining location. The Escondido closure underscores the challenges facing casual-dining chains even as a few locally owned locations continue to operate.
