Shanahan Limited Ahead of Melbourne Opener
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan appeared briefly at the team’s first training camp practice since his July car crash, then stepped back as assistants led the session while he continues to recover from concussion and other injuries. He remains in concussion protocol and wears a cast on his left hand, with sunglasses and a distinctive mustache evident during his appearance. Assistant head coach Chris Foerster acted as the head coach in his absence, and coordinators handled day-to-day duties as the team prepared for the season. The organization indicated the season opener will be in Melbourne, Australia on Sept. 11, with the Rams as the opponent, marking a shift from the previously reported domestic Week 1 game. Teammates and veterans, including Fred Warner and Trent Williams, helped maintain a veteran-driven rhythm during practice as Shanahan’s return is phased. Shanahan will remain limited as recovery continues and concussion protocols are followed.
