Route 66 Celebrations Mark 100th Across Nation
Route 66 is turning 100 with a nationwide wave of celebrations from coast to coast. In Albuquerque, vintage-car enthusiasts gathered to mark the milestone with a public display along the Mother Road. A historian and author, Peter Dudek, retraced the route, noting both dwindling historic sites and increased preservation, while also observing new museums and landmarks that keep the highway alive for international visitors. States and local groups drive the festivities, with St. Louis designated as a kickoff satellite city and events ranging from bike parades to car displays and film screenings, and Texas staging a multi-day road trip that included a record-length classic-car parade. Online interest has surged, with social-media chatter up about 302% and multi-city itineraries becoming a popular way to celebrate the centennial. West Hollywood also hosted a Centennial Celebration featuring a car show, historical presentations, art, and live music to highlight the road’s iconic legacy.
