Harvard antisemitism suit dismissed; multi-billion-dollar dispute

A federal judge in Boston, U.S. District Judge Richard G. Stearns, dismissed the Trump administration’s Title VI lawsuit against Harvard University alleging discrimination against Jewish and Israeli students and violations of federal civil rights laws. The court ruled that cited antisemitic incidents were too isolated and episodic to show an ongoing violation and that the government failed to prove institutionalized noncompliance. The evidence was largely centered on the 2023–24 academic year, with only a few post-2024 incidents, and there was no plausible inference that Harvard’s noncompliance persisted to today. Harvard framed the decision as a vindication, while the DOJ signaled it is weighing next steps as related investigations nationwide continue. The ruling comes amid a broader, politically charged debate over campus antisemitism, federal funding, and campus autonomy. Harvard remains subject to other investigations and public scrutiny.
