Padres sale approved to Feliciano Jones
Major League Baseball unanimously approved the sale of the San Diego Padres to a ownership group led by José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones for a reported $3.9 billion, marking the largest MLB sale in history. The couple, who are married, will hold more than 40% ownership and Feliciano will become the Padres’ control person, with other investors joining them. The Seidler family’s ownership ends after decades of stewardship, though daily operations will continue under CEO Erik Greupner and baseball operations chief A.J. Preller. The new owners have expressed a clear ambition to deliver a World Series championship and to build a durable, championship-focused franchise in San Diego. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and the Padres organization emphasized gratitude to the Seidler family and confidence in the transition and future leadership. The deal’s approval comes after a protracted sale process and reflects a historic shift in Padres ownership as the team looks to build on recent postseason activity.
