Outbreak Triggers Expanded Jalapeño Recalls Nationwide

A multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeño peppers from Coast Citrus Distributors has led Taylor Fresh Foods to recall dozens of jalapeño-containing products distributed to major retailers including Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Whole Foods, and Hannaford. Taylor Farms says it is no longer sourcing from the implicated Sinaloa, Mexico farm and is sourcing from alternate suppliers, while urging consumers to discard recalled items and seek refunds. Public health investigations by the FDA and CDC continue to connect the outbreak to fresh jalapeños tied to Coast Citrus Distributors, with a grower in Sinaloa identified as a potential source and 345 illnesses across 27 states reported. In addition, the USDA FSIS issued a public health alert for meat and poultry products that may contain the recalled jalapeños, prompting further consumer caution. Retailers including Hannaford and others have expanded recalls, with some best-by dates extended through August 16, 2026. This case continues the broader trend of cross-category recalls and regulatory coordination to address contamination risks.
