Nike shuts over a dozen neighborhood stores nationwide
Nike is closing a significant portion of its Nike Live neighborhood stores, with reports of at least 14 to 15 locations permanently shutting across 13 states after initially launching the concept in 2018. These micro-stores, many tied to the Nike Well Collective rebrand in 2023, were designed to offer a digitally enabled, membership-driven experience and proximity to local markets, but the firm says it is evaluating its fleet to better align with growth and its future marketplace. The closures come amid broader retail challenges for Nike, including a stock slump, revenue pressure in its latest quarter, and a strategic shift in its direct-to-consumer operations. Locations affected span California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina and Texas, among others, with some stores previously serving as pilot sites for personalized services and reservations. Nike executives have emphasized that these moves are part of broader efforts to elevate stores and streamline the physical footprint, rather than a collapse of the direct-to-consumer strategy. The company’s broader outlook notes ongoing adjustments to its retail footprint as it weighs how best to serve customers in a crowded, shifting market.
