NHTSA Probes Nearly 1M GM Vehicles
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a probe into 997,743 General Motors pickups and SUVs from model years 2021–2026 equipped with the L87 6.2-liter V-8 engine, following concerns about engine failures after a prior recall remedy. The agency is investigating post-remedy engine failures despite fixes, with GM attributing the issue to a supplier. The probe's engineering analysis is expanding to include engines produced after May 2024, as complaints about failures accumulate. Affected models include the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Yukon, among others. The NHTSA says it will assess the effectiveness of GM's fixes and continue the investigation into post-recall failures. GM has previously issued a recall addressing the engine concerns and has faced hundreds of reports of failures under the recall repairs.
