UK airports have dramatically increased or introduced ‘kiss-and-fly’ drop-off charges, with 16 of 20 airports raising fees since last summer and the average cost up about a third. Gatwick and Stansted now charge up to £10 for short stops, with Edinburgh and Bristol also among the highest, while London City shifted from free drop-offs to the most expensive per-minute rate. Four airports—Liverpool John Lennon, East Midlands, Belfast City, and Southampton—were not increased this year. The RAC criticizes the hikes as unfair to travelers dropping off friends and family and notes the practice contrasts with major international hubs where drop-offs are often free. Drivers are advised to be cautious about park-now, pay-later zones amid the changes. Many UK airports still offer free drop-offs in nearby long-stay car parks linked by shuttle buses, and none of the ten busiest EU airports charge for drop-offs.
