Justice Dept Seeks Halt on Darwin's Pet Food
The FDA has pursued a civil action against Arrow Reliance Inc. doing business as Darwin's Natural Pet Products for producing uncooked pet food deemed adulterated, with Salmonella and other pathogens found in their facility and products dating back to 2017, and a lawsuit seeking a permanent injunction to stop production and distribution as illnesses were linked to their foods. In a parallel public health push, a Salmonella outbreak tied to jalapeño peppers has prompted a widening recall across the country, with retailers like H-E-B adding nearly 20 new items produced with NatureBest jalapeños and distributed in July to August 2026. Separately, Oma’s Pride recalled 639 bags of Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe frozen raw dog food after FDA testing confirmed Salmonella, with three illnesses reported across 11 states and Lot BB012729 manufactured January 27, 2026. The company urged disposal and refunds, noting the health risks to both pets and humans and the FDA’s warning that raw pet foods can pose higher safety risks. Authorities emphasize that recalled products should not be sold or fed, and consumers should follow disposal and cleaning guidance to prevent cross-contamination. The recalls highlight ongoing concerns about Salmonella in pet foods and raw products, prompting coordinated actions from the FDA, retailers, and pet owners.
