Indonesia marks 81st Independence Day, Prabowo-led ceremony
Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto led multiple Independence Day events, including the 81st anniversary ceremonies at Merdeka Palace with traditional attire, parade elements, and wreath-laying, as well as a National Visitation and Holy Reflection at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery honoring fallen heroes. The celebrations featured solemn rituals, such as the Last Post and a moment of silence, along with the ceremonial transport of historical symbols by students. In his State of the Nation address ahead of Independence Day, Prabowo touted Indonesia’s strongest first-half growth in more than a decade—5.61% in Q1 and 5.45% in the first half of the year—and projected a possible 6% full-year rate if policies stay sound. He cautioned, however, that growth must translate into jobs and higher living standards, emphasizing welfare and the creation of employment opportunities through investment. Internationally, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik sent greetings to Prabowo, signaling continued bilateral goodwill and cooperation.
