India pharma deals hold steady at $13.9B
India’s pharma and healthcare sector posted a resilient $13.9 billion in deal value in Q1 FY27 despite a 17% drop in deal volume, led by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries’ $11.8 billion acquisition of Organon & Co. The quarter underscored a strategic shift from generic volume growth toward high-value, globally accessible capabilities and specialty portfolios. Investor interest remains focused on AI-enabled care, genomics, oncology and advanced diagnostics, with outbound M&A driving expansion into regulated international markets. In Q2 2026, deal activity continued to hold strong at $13.9 billion, with 65 deals and M&A totaling $13.2 billion, where excluding the large Organon deal, values still rose about 12% quarter-on-quarter. The data show a widening emphasis on specialty capabilities and innovation-led growth, supported by a high proportion of outbound activity and revived inbound deals as Indian firms expand their global footprint. Overall, the sector’s deal momentum reflects a long-term growth story as India cements its role in global healthcare supply chains.
