IDF orders probes into Hind Rajab, Rafah deaths
The Israeli military announced criminal investigations into several Gaza-related fatalities, including the March 2025 deaths of 15 aid and emergency workers after a World Central Kitchen convoy, while also reviewing the fatal January 2024 death of five-year-old Hind Rajab and other incidents. In Rafah, the IDF says its forces opened fire during a raid on an aid convoy, killing 15 Palestinians, and noted that a firefight with vehicles around the convoy included a fire truck and ambulances; the WCK had hired an armed security team whose presence was not coordinated with the IDF. The IDF for the first time acknowledged firing at Hind Rajab’s car and opened a criminal investigation into her killing, after earlier denying involvement. Reviews by the military’s Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism led to internal probes into four incidents, with one World Central Kitchen incident dismissed for lack of reasonable suspicion of misconduct. Several reports emphasize the army’s duty to investigate exceptional wartime incidents under international and Israeli law as it conducts multiple probes across Gaza fronts. The developments come amid ongoing international scrutiny over civilian deaths in Gaza and calls for accountability from both sides.
