Honduran Deportations Exceed 30,000 Across US, Mexico, Guatemala
The United States is expanding third-country deportations, routing Mexican nationals through Guatemala and, increasingly, Honduras as part of President Trump’s immigration policies. About 2,284 Mexican nationals have arrived on flights carrying Guatemalan deportees, and roughly 2,300 Mexicans have been deported to Guatemala this year, signaling a large-scale cross-border removal operation. Guatemala coordinates with Mexico to ensure deportees are transferred onward within about 24 hours, despite Mexico’s formal objections asserting Mexican citizens’ right to enter the country. The broader practice involves sending Mexican deportees to other countries such as Honduras as part of a regional network, with some Mexicans also deported directly to Honduras, and is framed by U.S. officials as a lawful deterrent. Mexico has criticized the arrangement while continuing to cooperate with the United States, and Guatemala and Honduras are hosting a growing stream of third-country deportations with costs borne by either the United States or the destination country. Separately, Honduras reported 30,965 Honduran deportations from the United States, Mexico, and Guatemala in 2026 through August, highlighting ongoing concerns about TPS termination and the role of remittances in the Honduran economy.
