Germany Producer Prices Rise 3.0% to 3-Year High
Germany’s producer prices rose 3.0% year on year in July 2026, the fastest annual pace in over three years, driven primarily by a 5.4% jump in intermediate goods and a 3.8% rise in energy costs. On a monthly basis, prices increased 1.1%, signaling renewed inflationary pressure at the factory gate. Within intermediate goods, metals and chemicals led the gains, with notable increases in copper, iron, steel, and fertilizers; energy-driven components such as naphtha and motor fuels also surged. Excluding energy, the core PPI still rose by about 2.7% year over year, indicating broader price pressures beyond energy. Analysts cited geopolitical tensions around Iran and the Middle East, plus heat, as contributors to the inflationary momentum. The development aligns with early-of-pactory inflation signals for Germany, suggesting continued attention for policymakers and the economy.
