Gary Woodland named captain’s assistant for 2026 Presidents Cup
Gary Woodland, a five-time PGA TOUR winner and 2019 U.S. Open champion, has been named the fourth and final captain’s assistant for Brandt Snedeker’s U.S. team at the 2026 Presidents Cup, marking his first time in that leadership role. He joins Jim Furyk, Keegan Bradley, and Webb Simpson under Snedeker, with the event scheduled for September 24-27 at Medinah Country Club. Woodland previously played for the U.S. in the 2019 Presidents Cup and served as a vice captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, highlighting his rising leadership profile within Team USA. Off the course, he had a notable year marked by his 2026 Texas Children's Houston Open win and a brain surgery in 2023, during which he disclosed a struggle with PTSD, underscoring a powerful comeback narrative. Team USA captain Snedeker praised Woodland’s experience, leadership, and team-first mentality as valuable to the Presidents Cup preparation in Chicago. The appointment continues Woodland’s long-running competitive arc, reinforcing his role at the intersection of player success and team leadership for the U.S. squad.
