England Wins Glasgow 2026 Powerlifting Gold
England’s Mark Swan won the inaugural gold for Glasgow 2026 in the men’s lightweight para powerlifting with a 222kg lift, finishing level on 153.9 points with Nigeria’s Roland Ezuruike before securing the victory on a tiebreak by the second decimal place after both failed their final attempts. The attempt to lift a world-record‑equaling 232kg was ruled out due to a press sequence, leaving Swan proud of the gold but not the record. Bronze in the event went to Malaysia’s Bonnie Bunyau Gustin after failing to lift 230kg in his final try. In the women’s lightweight, England’s Olivia Broome won bronze with a 119kg lift and 106.6 points, following Esther Nworgu of Nigeria (gold, 119) and Esther Oyema (silver, 115.5). England’s Charlotte McGuinness finished fifth with 110kg (96.9 points), contributing to England’s two‑medal tally at these Games.
