Empire Metals Upgrades Pitfield to 8.16 Billion Tonnes TiO2, World’s Largest Titanium Resource
Empire Metals reports a major upgrade to its Pitfield mineral resource, confirming the project as the world’s largest titanium resource with 8.16 billion tonnes at 4.3% TiO2 and 349 million tonnes of contained TiO2, across the Thomas and Cosgrove deposits, including the first Measured Resource. The resource upgrade highlights a near-surface weathered zone of 4.39 billion tonnes at 4.4% TiO2 with minimal overburden, enabling simpler open-pit mining, and high-grade TiO2 cores averaging above 6% TiO2 across broad strike lengths. The company’s flowsheet supports high-purity TiO2 production and has established rail links to deep-water ports, underpinning potential supply to pigment and titanium markets. Empire Metals is AIM-quoted and OTCQX-traded, with a 70% stake in Pitfield via a JV and Snowden Optiro-certified JORC 2012 reporting for the resource. While the fundamentals point to a tier-one project, the business remains pre-revenue with ongoing cash burn and reliance on external financing, which could affect shareholder returns if funding conditions tighten. Analysts note a neutral stance driven by the lack of revenue despite the upside from the enlarged resource and development potential.
