Eagles fear Greenard may miss season opener
Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard remains on the physically unable to perform list with a pectoral injury suffered in the weight room, clouding his Week 1 availability. Vic Fangio has expressed uncertainty about when he’ll return, saying the injury will take time to heal and that he isn’t sure if he’ll be ready for the Sept. 13 opener against the Commanders. Philadelphia gave Greenard a four-year, $98 million deal after trading for him, making his health especially consequential for a defense that hoped his production would anchor the edge. Through the offseason and early camp, Greenard has missed practice and the preseason, raising questions about his readiness in a defense that will lean on backups like Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, and A.K. Ebiketie until he returns. The situation has shifted from initial optimism to growing concern among coaches and observers as Week 1 approaches with fewer than three weeks to go. If Greenard can't play, the Eagles would rely on the developing group at edge and reassess plans for the rotation once he returns.
