Zuckerberg Buys Strancally Castle in Ireland
Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan purchased Strancally Castle, a 1830s Gothic-style estate on about 440 acres in County Waterford, in an off-market deal valued between €20 million and €30 million. The property, built around 1830 for MP John Keily and renovated over the past two decades, sits roughly 150–200 kilometers from Meta’s European headquarters in Dublin and will serve as a base for visits to Ireland, where Meta employs about 1,500 people. The purchase places Zuckerberg among a cohort of tech magnates buying Irish country estates, including James Dyson and Stripe’s John Collison. The deal terms have not appeared on Ireland’s Property Price Register, and exact price remains undisclosed. Media reports add historical lore about a nearby site, though there is no evidence the castle carries that macabre history.
