In netball, the Goal Keeper (GK) can move anywhere within the defensive third of the court. The defensive third consists of the area behind the defensive end line through to the center line. The GK cannot enter the attacking third (the area beyond the center line toward the opponent's goal) at any point during play. Within their permitted defensive third, the GK has considerable freedom to position themselves for defense, often moving between the goal circle and further back on the court to intercept passes, mark opposing attackers, and disrupt offensive plays. The GK works closely with the Goal Defense (GD) to create a defensive wall. Like all players, the GK must stay within the court boundaries and follow standard netball rules regarding footwork, contact, and obstruction. The GK's positioning and movement are crucial to a team's defensive strategy, as they are responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring in their goal circle.
