Transgender would-be assassin of Bessent sentenced

Ryan Michael English, a transgender woman from Massachusetts, was sentenced to 73 months in federal prison for plotting to kill Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and possibly burn a Washington think tank, after traveling with a knife, Molotov cocktails, and a lighter. English admitted intent to kill Bessent, had initially targeted other officials, and said the plot was inspired by Luigi Mangione, highlighting a DOJ emphasis on protecting public officials from threats.
